Work at Home

I started to consider working at home when I had my eldest, 4 years ago. I thought, I can't continue to work 8-5 in the office without seeing my baby grow everyday. Then I thought of resigning and be a full-time mom.

My husband's boss, knowing me, thought that it's a waste of my technical skills to just be at home. He thought that maybe their company can give the benefit I was looking for that can make use my skills.

I tried applying to their company after posting my resignation. Luckily, I landed a job specially suited for me. I was able to work at home most of the time, only going to the office for meetings or trainings. They gave me a mobile office at home, with free home phone and internet connection. Of course, I got to pay for the electric bills.

I work everyday 11pm to 8am at home and it worked so well for me. I was really not a morning person anyway. My baby wakes up before my shift ends. I was able to make and have breakfast with my family. My baby was about 7 months and I'm awake when he wakes in the morning. My sleep starts at 10am when he's ready for his daytime sleep. He usually sleeps for 4 hours then. He wakes at 2pm and I wake at around two to three hours later. My husband comes home and we'll have another family time until the baby is ready for his sleep at around 8pm. I sleep with him and wakes up again just before 11pm to start my shift.

That was my typical day when I started with this company. I'm very lucky that my manager was very supportive of my priorities. I got promoted a few months after starting in the company. I got more responsibilities at work as years go by, but still, I have this work from home privilege I'm getting until now.
